Vehicle optical device for scanning the side lanes field

The vehicle has infrared transmitters (2a, 2b) and CCD arrays (2c) integrated into two wing mirrors and connected to a computer (8) for evaluating the scans. The computer transmits information concerning actual distances of a side of the vehicle from the white line of the lane to an indicating unit (9), so that the driver can position his vehicle accurately or, in this case, allow the automatic lane-holding system to operate. The indicating unit (9) is connected to a regulating unit (10) that provides the automatic steering system data in order to keep the vehicle in the lane, according to the difference between actual and required distances.
