[Also in Division F1] In a dispensing device for inhalation therapy comprising a housing 22 for receiving an aerosol dispensing container 20 with a metering valve 34, a latching mechanism in the housing is adapted to allow a spring 30 to move the container relative to the housing to open the metering valve when air is drawn through the mouthpiece 38. A cam 43 rotatably mounted in the housing 22 has a pin 50, Fig. 7, engageable by a portion 51 of the mouthpiece 38 and a notch 62, Fig. 3, engageable by a hook member 61 on a flapper 59 in an air passage from an inlet 64, Fig. 7, to the mouthpiece past the cam. The container 20 is supported in the housing 22 with the valve 34 closed by a member (55), Figs. 4 and 9 (not shown), engaging the cam 43 and the container. When the mouthpiece 38 is pivoted from the Fig. 3 to the Fig. 7 position and air is drawn through the mouthpiece, the flapper 59 is pivoted to move the hook member 61 from the notch 62 and the cam is rotated by the member (55), Figs. 4 and 9, engaging the cam and container. The cam and container engaging member (55) moves into a relieved portion of the cam and the container moves to open the valve 34. The spring 30 bears on a pivoted lever 23 which may have a projection (70), Figs. 12 and 13 (not shown), extending from the housing 22. The lever is pivotable to compress the uncompressed spring (30) and move the container when the latch mechanism is released. A cover (75), Fig. 13, may be provided for the mouthpiece. |
