Automobile gear shift lever lock

A gear shift lock for locking a gear shift lever of an automobile with a manual transmission includes a ring (20) with a through hole (21) and a tube (30) with a protrusion (32) adapted to be received in the through hole. To lock the gear shift lever the protrusion (32) is moved down into engagement with the hole (21) by means of studs (721) being pushed down slots (62) by the user pushing down on the handle (80). To unlock the gear shift lever the user rotates the keyhole (71) so as to bring the studs (721) into alignment with the slots (62) and enabling the handle (80) and thus the protrusion (32) to be withdrawn upwards out of engagement with the ring (20).
