The catalyst electrode has on one side a gasket washer of a thermoplastic material which adheres by keying into the pores and this ring is preferably of a material which is soluble in water or in an aqueous electrolyte e.g. water soluble PVA and can be applied in a mould tool by injection moulding using a spring loaded plate in the mould tool.
