PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transparent glass capable of meeting both the circumstances under a low pressure and a high pressure, having high transmittance in the visible region of light, having extremely high chemical durability (water resistance, acid resistance, and alkali resistance) and corrosion resistance so that mica or an alkali-resisting adhering glass material is not required, while keeping ordinary characteristics, such as low thermal expansion characteristics and high thermal shock resistance, and capable of melting at a comparatively low temperature. SOLUTION: This transparent glass comprises an aluminosilicate-based transparent glass and satisfies the following: the glass has a decreased quantity of mass (a corroded quantity) of <=4.0 mg per cm2 of the surface area of the sampled glass, when the glass is allowed to stand in a sodium hydroxide solution having a concentration of 300 mg/l under a test pressure of 50 Mpa at 250 deg.C for 5 hr for evaluating the corrosion resistance; the glass has a coefficient of thermal expansion of 35-50×10-7/ deg.C at 100-300 deg.C; and all of three measurements on powder mass decrease ratios are each not more than 0.10%, when the three measurements are carried out for evaluating the water resistance, the acid resistance, and the alkali resistance, respectively.
