PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a work holding device capable of accurately placing a work at a specified position between a pair of straight cup grinding wheels, and thereby grinding the work with high accuracy. SOLUTION: The position of a work holder 51 in a work holding device 5, in which a work W is inserted between a pair of straight cup grinding wheels 11, 21 facing each other in a double head type grinder, is made accurately adjustable. That is, an X axis driving part for moving the work holder 51 in the specified sliding direction in a plane parallel to the operating surfaces of the respective grinding wheels 11, 21, a B axis driving part for rotating the work holder around the B axis perpendicular to the above sliding direction in the plane parallel to the both operating surfaces, an A axis driving part for rotating the work holder around the A axis perpendicular to the B axis, a C axis driving part for rotating the work holder around a C axis perpendicular to the A axis and the B axis, and a Z axis driving part for displacing the work holder in the direction perpendicular to the operating surfaces of the respective grinding wheels 11, 21, are provided.
