PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel carbon black which has both reinforcing power and vibrationproof capability, usually incompatible with each other, and is suitable for preparing a vibrationproof rubber and to provide a rubber composition containing the same. SOLUTION: This carbon black, excellent in reinforcing power and vibrationproof capability, has a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area (N2SA) of 30-70 m2/g and a dibutyl phthalate absorption(DBPA) of 130 cm3/100 g or higher and satisfies the relation represented by the equation: TINT>=-0.1562Da+106 [wherein TINT is the specific coloring power; and Da (volume-base particle size) is obtained by (2540+71×DBPA)/N2SA] and the relation represented by the equation: Hc>=-37.7×N2SA+5810 (wherein Hc is the hydrogen content in the carbon black).
