PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for folding back for folding back a veneer while it is turned reversely and an apparatus for unwinding for folding back a wound roll of the veneer wound on a winding reel while it is automatically unwound to the next process. SOLUTION: When a driving guide belt 23 is revolved around a supporting shaft 19 as a support and is brought into contact with a part of the lower part of the outer periphery of a wound roll 3 to rotate the driving guide belt 23, a veneer 1 is unwound by the frictional force of the driving guide belt 23 applied on the wound roll 3. When the unwound veneer 1 is carried on the driving guide belt 23 and reaches the folding back part, it is transferred to a relay pulley P from the driving guide belt 23 and receices driving of an endless belt of a folding-back guide member 29 and is folded back while it is pinched by the relay pulley P and the endless belt and the surface and the back surface are turned over. As carrying speed of the driving guide belt and a speed for folding back while the veneer is pinched between the endless belt and the relay pulley P are controlled approximately at the same speed, there exists no possibility of stretching the veneer 1 in the direction crossing the fiber direction accompanying control of peripheral speed.
