PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating method for a membrane filtration device capable of keeping high permeability over a long period and reducing the quantity of back washing water. SOLUTION: In the operating method of the membrane filtration device, in which a filtration stage for filtering raw water using a hollow fiber type filtration membrane module and a back washing stage for back washing the filtration membrane module with back washing water are repeated as one cycle, a pausing step for interrupting the filtration for 1-20 min is set between the filtration stage and the back washing stage, and the liquid chemical is injected into the raw water flow passage side of the filtration membrane module in the filtration stage before shifting to the pausing step.
