PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct appropriate steering assistance in response to a road face condition by simple processing. SOLUTION: Normative valuesΔTobj of variationsΔT of steering torques T corresponding to a steering speed Ss and a vehicle speed Sv in a general road face are stored preliminarily in a normative value stroring part 16. An actual torque variationΔT is compared with the valueΔTobj in their levels by a comparing part 18. A target current Iobj of an electric motor M is determined by an assisting table 11 based on the steering torque T. The current Iobj is corrected by multiplying it by a correction factor k variable in response to a comparison result in the comparing part 18. The motor M is driven based on a corrected target current k.Iobj.
