PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve detecting precision of a tool diameter. SOLUTION: A tool diameter confirmation device 21 is furnished with a tool detection means 6 to detect an axial tool 17, moving means 4, 10, 14 to move at least one of the tool 17 and the tool detection means 6, a positional setting means 18 to set a relative positional relation of the tool 17 and the tool detection means 6 at a first position X1 for the tool detection means 6 free to detect an outer periphery of the tool 17 and a second position X2 impossible to detect by actuating the moving means 4, 10, 14 and an erroneous exchange judgement means 18 to judge that an exchanged tool is erroneously exchanged at the time when the tool detection means 6 comes to be in one detection state of either of impossible detection of the first position X1 and possible detection at the second position X2 while the exchanged tool 17 is rotated at least one turn, the first position X1 is at a position free to detect the tool even when the tool 17 tolerance of a nominal diameter of which is the smallest diameter is rotated and runs out, and the second position X2 is at a position impossible to detect the tool even when the tool tolerance of the nominal diameter of the tool 17 of which is the largest diameter is rotated and runs out.
