PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a garbage treatment device capable of efficiently performing fermentation/ripening treatment of garbage. SOLUTION: This treatment device is provided with a moisture sensor for controlling the heating temperature of a material to be heat-treated with a heater, by using a procedure that comprises: fitting two electrodes to a pair of opposite side-walls of a garbage treatment vessel respectively; detecting plural voltage values applied to or current values passing through between the electrodes within a specified period of time, which values are to be used as the basis for deciding the moisture content of the material to be treated; adopting only a prescribed number of the detected voltage or current values in the order of higher value (including the highest value); and determining the average of these adopted values as a detection result of the moisture content, which result is used as the final basis for deciding the moisture content.
