SHIFT LEVER DEVICE FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the construction of a shift lever device for an automatic transmission by employing a parking lock mechanism in order to interlock a parking brake lever with a detent pin upon a depression of a shift button on a shift lever only for a movement between arbitrary shift positions and establish a parking lock condition that limits a movement between the shift positions, and by dispensing with consideration to such an idle mechanism and the like for the shift lever as to prevent an over-stroke of the shift cable. SOLUTION: The shift lever device for an automatic transmission has a parking brake lever having the same center of swing as a shift lever, and a parking lock mechanism for interlocking the parking brake lever with a detent pin upon a depression of a shift button on the shift lever only for a movement between arbitrary shift positions to thus establish a parking lock condition that limits a movement between the shift positions.
