<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a sudden start of an automobile equipped with an automatic transmission by braking the automobile upon a determination of a sudden start. SOLUTION: After an insertion of a start key (S100), a control part determines a sudden start (S200) if engine speed surges within a first reference time while the output voltage of accelerator detecting means for detecting the input level of the accelerator pedal falls below a given voltage under a stop condition with no signal input to change the shift position. After the insertion of the start key, a surge in engine speed within a second reference time following the detection of a change to an operable shift position within the first reference time leads to a determination of a sudden start (S300). No engine speed detection is performed during travel operations, and only on the detection of a change to an operable shift position from the stop condition, engine speed is repeatedly metered for the second reference time to decide the state of a sudden start.</p> |
