PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively improve the efficiency of a Sterling expander. SOLUTION: High low pressure stage stirling mechanisms 11 and 11', operating with a phase difference of a half period, are provided. When the high pressure stage Sterling mechanism 11 is positioned in the vicinity of a point of time of transfer from a volume decrease process to a volume increase process, pressure gas S is injected in the low temperature chamber C of the high pressure stage stirling mechanism 11 and an internal pressure gas S" is discharged from the low temperature chamber C' of the low pressure stage Sterling mechanism 11'. When the high pressure stage Sterling mechanism 11 is positioned in the vicinity of a point of time of transfer from a volume increase process to a volume decrease process, a part of internal pressure gas S' is discharged from the low temperature chamber C of the high pressure stage stirling mechanism 11, and the discharged pressure gas S' is injected in the low temperature chamber C' of the low pressure stage Sterling mechanism 11'. So constituted pressure gas feeding and discharging means 21 and 16 are provided.
