PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain air mass intaken into a cylinder corresponding to required torque irrespective of fluctuation of negative pressure even when the desired negative pressure is provided during intake air amount controlling due to variable valve system. SOLUTION: A target negative pressure is computed based on engine operation conditions, while an opening of an electrically controlled throttle valve 9 arranged on an intake passage 7 is controlled so as to attain the target negative pressure. A target intake air amount intaken into a cylinder is computed based on the engine operation conditions, while a closing timing of an electromagnetically driven intake valve 5 is controlled so as to attain the target intake air amount. In such a case, the target air amount for calculating the intake valve closing timing or the intake valve closing timing calculated based on the target air amount is corrected based on the target negative pressure, or an actual negative pressure sensed by a negative pressure sensor.
