PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a sensor detecting printing paper from being affected in the detection by the light of a light source used for drying the paper and thereby to enable output of a stable signal and prevention of a malfunction of printing operation. SOLUTION: The printing paper P after printing is sent to a drier 3 and ink is solidified and dried by the light emitted from the light source of a drying unit 17. The state of carriage of the printing paper P after printing is detected by the paper detecting sensor 20. This sensor 20 is disposed in proximity to the drying unit 17 and so affected by the light of the light source. A malfunction preventing circuit holds a detection signal of the paper detecting sensor 20 during the time of charging of the light source and outputs a value just before the emission of the light of the light source, and therefore the effect in the emission is eliminated.
