PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary drum type paper material-washing device which can remarkably improve a fiber-dispersing effect and a fiber-replacing and washing effect (deinking and dust-removing effects), achieve the downsizing or rationalization of the washing device, and additionally provide the good purified paper material. SOLUTION: Weir plates 9 extended along the inner circumferential surface of an air and water-passing drum 1 in the circumferential direction are disposed in the axial direction at distances, and a plurality of paper material-washing zones 10 are formed in a space between each pair of the adjacent weir plates. Raking plates 12 for raking up the paper material liquid in the washing zone 10 between the adjacent weir plates 9 in the drum rotation direction are disposed in the circumferential direction at distances, and the raking plates 12 are disposed so as to project from the inner edges of the weir plates 9. While the paper material sequentially gets over the washing zones 10 formed between the weir plates 9 and finally reaches the paper material exit 5, the paper material is repeatedly raked up in the circumferential direction with the raking plates with the rotation of the air and water-passing drum 1 and then dropped by the gravity in each washing zone 10. The purified paper material is obtained from the paper material exit 5.
