PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controlling method of a cutting-off device for continuous ly cast material, with which the continuously cast material is cut off with a torch while shifting so as to synchronize to the shifting speed of the continuously cast material to form a cast slab. SOLUTION: In the case of generating the abnormality in a retracting type carrying rollers which control so as to descendingly retract to a retracting position during cutting off with the torch and passing through the torch just above the rollers and ascendingly position to the carrying position before and after passing through the torch and thus, being impossible to descendingly retract to the retracting position, the flame of the torch is contracted and the cutting-off of the continuously cast material is intermitted for a time during passing through the torch above the roller generating the abnormality.
