METHOD FOR REMOVING MERCURY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simply and efficiently removing mercury, by which the mercury concentration of a liquid hydrocarbon containing the mercury can be reduced to <=1 W/V ppb and further by which the reelevation of the mercury concentration can be controlled. SOLUTION: This method for removing mercury from a liquid hydrocarbon containing the mercury, characterized by bringing the liquid hydrocarbon containing the mercury and not containing dissolved oxygen or containing dissolved oxygen equilibrated with a gas having an oxygen concentration of <=8 vol.% into contact with (A) a sulfur compound represented by the general formula: MM'S (M and M' are the same or different each other and are each independently H, an alkali metal or ammonium salt), an aqueous solution containing the sulfur compound or a liquid existing in a tank for raw oil and with (B) a substance having an ability to ionize single mercury contained in the hydrocarbon to remove the mercury.
