PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify a casing structure in a compact size and greatly reduce manufacturing cost, in a rotary drive device. SOLUTION: In a rotational power transmission 102 wherein a simple planetary roller mechanism 202 of a friction transmission type having a sun gear, a planetary roller, and a ring roller, and a gear transmission mechanism 104 for transmitting rotational power by a gear are assembled with each other; the simple planetary roller mechanism 202 and the gear transmission mechanism 104 are housed in the same inner space of a casing 151, and maximum contact pressure acting between the sun roller and the planetary roller is set within a range to 1,000 MPa or more and 2,000 MPa or less. In the simple planetary roller mechanism 202 and the gear transmission mechanism 104, naphthenic mineral oil is used as a lubricant.
