PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piping welding jig and a method therefor by which an use quantity of an inert gas used for welding is reduced. SOLUTION: A piping welding jig 10 is arranged with a balloon member 16 freely bulging/contracting, the balloon member 16 at a contracted state is inserted from a clearance 14 of pipings 12, 12 facing each other inside the pining 12. The balloon member 16 is bulged by supplying an argon gas from an argon gas supply cylinder 20, while a small diameter part 6b is in non contact with the piping 12, large diameter parts 16a are abutted on the whole inner peripheral face of the piping 12. By this method, an annular space along the clearance 14 is formed inside the piping 12, an inert gas is filled in the annular space.
