PURPOSE: An optical recorder is provided to realize the high density of tracks by optimally controlling the width of a recording mark even when the difference in the recording sensitivity exists between the adjacent tracks, and minimizing the crosstalk between the tracks at the time of signal reproduction or the cross-erase at the time of signal recording. CONSTITUTION: Inversion patterns are recorded on the track Tr(n) by a predetermined light beam capable of forming the large recording mark. After that, normal patterns are recorded on the area adjacent to the recording area of the inversion patterns on the adjacent track Tr(n+1) by changing the recording intensity of the light beams. The track Tr(n) is reproduced corresponding to each light beam condition to detect the read-out signals(V10, V12, V14). Also corresponding to each light beam condition, the track Tr(n+1) is reproduced to detect the read-out signals(V11, V13, V15). The optimum recording condition for the track Tr(n) is decided based on the condition of the light beam intensity of the above plural light beam and the read-out signals(V10, V12, V14 and V11, V13, V15).
