PURPOSE: A document data display method is provided to display picture data according to the feature of a picture, the display capabilities of a terminal, and the request of a user at the time of displaying document data described in a structure description language including the reference of picture data. CONSTITUTION: The display size of picture data referred to in document data requested by a terminal is analyzed by an information relay device, and the display size is compared with a threshold so that the reference description of a picture is selectively generated. Moreover, the display of the picture data suitable for the request of the user is attained by offering the attribute information of picture data, the display method of the picture data and the display operating device of the picture data to the user.
