PURPOSE: To realize appropriate duplicate management that corresponds to the type, use, data form, etc., of various recording media. CONSTITUTION: When information reproduced from a 1st recording medium is recorded on a 2nd recording medium, this device controls the permission/ rejection of recording (dubbing/copying) on the 2nd recording medium on the basis of the discrimination as to whether the 1st recording medium is a recording medium that is allowed to be dubbed or a recording medium that is not allowed to be dubbed. Thus, the device realizes the control of the permission/ rejection of a data duplicate in accordance with the type of the 1st recording medium.
