A fastening or securing device comprises a toothed strap 14 having a first and second end 42, 4 and a separate non-integral body 12 for holding the strap 14 in a closed loop. The body 12 comprises a first pair of jaws 22 having at least one barbed tooth 24 for engaging the first end 42 of the strap 14; a second pair of jaws 26 for securing the second end 44 of the strap 14; and a gear 92 which meshes with the teeth of the strap 14 and which can be turned to advance the first end 42 of the strap 14 through the body 12 and past the teeth 24 of the first pair of jaws 22 to tighten the strap 14. The gear 92 may be removed from the body 12 and the strap 14 may be tightened by hand. To release the strap 14, the first pair of jaws 22 may be levered apart by a pair of pliers to release the tension in the strap 14, then the second end 44 may be slid sideways from the second pair of jaws 26 through side opening (37, figure 4). The body 12 may be injection moulded and used with different length straps to provide different size securing devices. |
