PURPOSE: An oligomer having tetraacrylate functionality as well as carboxylic acid functionality is provided. The oligomer is useful as a photopolymerizable binder in photoresists for forming printed circuitry. Particular advantages of the oligomer are found in solder mask-forming compositions which must withstand the conditions of nickel/gold plating. CONSTITUTION: The oligomer is represented by the formula: (CH2 = CH(H or CH3)-CO-X-R-CH(OZ)-CH2-O- phi -)2-C(CH3)2 where R is an alkylene group of from 1 to 40 carbons; X is nothing or a diol selected from the group consisting of alkylene diols, polyester diols and polyether diols of molecular weight between 50 and 2,000; and Z has the formula: -CO-NH-Y-NH-CO-O(-VW1-5 -O-CO-NH-Y-NH-CO-O)n-Q-O-CO-CH(H or CH3) = CH2; where the Ys are alkylene or aromatic hydrocarbon groups; V is an alkylene, aromatic, alkylaryl, or arylalkyl hydrocarbon group, and the Ws are the same or different and are each an acidic group selected from the group consisting of COOH, SO2H, and PO4H(H or C1-18alkyl); n = 1-4; and Q in an alkylene group of 2 to 6 carbon atoms. |
