PURPOSE: A light guide plate is provided to develop a surface source which can efficiently convert the light by point sources to a surface source and has excellent luminance and its uniformity and a light guide plate which allows the formation of a bright and easily visible liquid crystal display device of a transmission type or reflection type. CONSTITUTION: The light guide plate(1) constituted by connecting the light guide plate(11) which at least has top and under surfaces(11a,11b), incident side surfaces(11c) consisting of the flanks of the top and under surfaces and connecting flanks(11e,11f) consisting of the flanks adjacent thereto and converts the light by the point sources to the surface source and the linear light guide plate(12) which converts the incident light from the point sources(14,15) to the linear light sources and emits the light from a light supply surface(12d) via the connecting flanks of the surface light guide plate and the light supply surfaces of the linear light guide plate, the surface source device(2) constituted by arranging the linear light guide plate and the point sources and the liquid crystal display device at least having the surface source device and liquid crystal cells. Accordingly, the wire-shaped light source may be positioned to the surface light guide plate with high accuracy and the liquid crystal display device, etc., which are low in electric power consumption and compact may be formed.
