PURPOSE: An electronic zigzag sewing machine capable of carrying out stop stitch formed in a specified pattern prior to or following a needle swinging pattern, positively with high quality by a simple method is provided. Therefore, sewing discrepancy does not occur when shifting between the normal needle swinging pattern and the needle-swinging pattern at the time of stop stitch, thereby heightening sewing quality. CONSTITUTION: This electronic zigzag sewing machine comprises: a device for memorizing the needle vibration pattern of a stop stitch by a zigzag stitch formed in the beginning and at the end of sewing of the zigzag stitch; a device for inputting the repeated number of needle vibration in a stop stitch needle vibration pattern; a device for determining the stitch number of the stop stitch or the falling number of the needle of the stop stitch based on the input-repeated number of needle vibration; and a control device for operating a main motor and a needle vibrating device to end the stop stitch by reading pattern data of needle vibration of the stop stitch.
