PURPOSE: To display characters and a picture or the like on a display immediately after the power source is supplied. CONSTITUTION: In this driving method of a display, after the power source is supplied shift clocks CK12 whose cycle is 1 μs are supplied to a shift register constituting a scanning electrode driving circuit as a shift clock CK2 instead of a shift clock CKN2 being a horizontal synchronizing cycle by an amount equivalent to (n) cycles corresponding to (n) lines of scanning electrodes of a liquid crystal panel and, also, the transferring of respective bits of the output data of the shift register to (n) pieces of drivers driving the (n) lines of the scanning electrodes of the panel is stopped by an enable signal EN becoming an 'H' level at least in a period corresponding to the amount equivalent to the (n) cycles.
