[Also in Division E2] A ship mooring device comprises an anchored chair member 1, 2 and a slip hook 5, pivotally mounted in the chair member, one arm of the slip hook being engageable by a releasable locking device 6 to hold the slip hook in an operative position to retain a mooring cable passing around a free other arm of the slip hook in which the free arm of the slip hook 5 carries a freely rotatable sheave 9 for retaining the cable, the axis of rotation of the sheave being substantially at right angles to the pivot axis 4 of the slip hook 5. As shown, in which the chair member consists of side plates 1 and cross-pieces 2 anchored by an eye 3 to a quay wall or the like, and in which the slip hook is releasable by means of a lever 7, the part 13 of the hook 5 projects beyond the smaller inner flange 12 of the sheave to protect the sheave from damage. In use, three such devices may be positioned at points 17, 18, 18a, Fig. 3, and in conjunction with warping winches 15, 16, used to manoeuvre a ship towards or away from a jetty 14.</p> |
