TWO STROKE CROSS HEAD ENGINE HAVING SHAFT DEVICE

PURPOSE: A two stroke cross head engine having shaft device is provided to provide high degree of freedom for the length of shaft system with respect to torsional vibration in an engine connected directly to propeller without an intermediate gear. CONSTITUTION: Shaft system for engine(1) has at least one crank shaft(2) and a propeller shaft(3). MCR is maximum continuous rating. When C is the member of cylinder number and (m) is an integral within the range of C/ <= (m) <= C-2 the shaft system with a propeller has such rigidity that natural frequency against torsional vibration mode with one node is in the range of 80 to 110% of MCRx(m). The ignition order of the engine is decided in a way that a torsional vibration of mth degree of the shaft device is minimized.
