PURPOSE: To provide a label-making device and a label-making method in which a label having an accurate length can be made in compliance with the condition before or after printing. CONSTITUTION: There is provided a label-making device for making a label in which a row of inputted characters can be printed on a tape T of an item to be printed, while the tape T is being fed out, and the tape T is cut to a predetermined length at a predetermined cutting position after printing the row of characters. This device is comprised of a printing means 12 for printing on the tape T, a tape feeding means 15 for feeding the tape T, a tape idle- feeding instruction means 210 for instructing an idle feeding of the tape T, and a control means 200 for driving only the tape feeding means 15 without driving the printing means 12 in response to the idle feeding instruction of the tape idle feeding instruction means 210 so as to feed the tape T only by a predetermined length.
