A mattress comprises a lower resilient slab, which may be in two parts 1A, 1B, with an underside 3 which is flat over the whole of its area and an upper side 4 formed by two surfaces which incline downwardly from the ends towards the centre, and an upper resilient slab 2 with a plane upper side 5 and a lower side 6 with two surfaces which incline in correspondence with the upper side 4 of the lower slab 1A, 1B, the upper slab 2 covering all but the ends of the upper side 4 of the lower slab. The head end H1 may be of greater height than the froot end H2. The upper side 5 of the upper slab 2 may be inclined or horizontal. The upper slab 2 has a transverse slot 7 which may receive a perforated, rigid plate (8). The slabs may be separate or joined together by bonding or welding. The slabs may be of foamed plastics or latex or of synthetic fibres in agglomerated layers embedded in latex. The slabs may be of different densities.</p> |
