The gastroplasty ring consists of a supple strip (1) with its two ends (5) held together by a coupling and forming an annular compression chamber of variable volume connected to a regulator (6). The coupling comprises male (11) and female (10) components which are held together by expanding the male component inside the female one using a fluid such as air or a liquid. The coupling components, in the form of a female eyelet and a male inflatable catheter with a zone (12) of reduced resistance, are fitted to extensions on the two ends of the strip so that the latter forms a continuous ring even when the coupling is released.
