PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the retrieval of a structure having a hierarchical relation, especially, the retrieval of a structure containing a brother relation concerning a structured document retrieving device for retrieving a document having a complicated structure. SOLUTION: An inquiry is inputted for designating the brother relation of document components, which are elements in the structured document, as a retrieval condition and an inquiry tree, with which the inquiry is expressed in a tree structure, is prepared. While referring to a hierarchical index 13, in which the hierarchical relation of respective document components in each structured document as a retrieval object is expressed in the tree structure with meta-components as one node, through a hierarchical index reference part 18, an inquiry converting part 17 converts the inquiry tree to a Boolean expression. While referring to a text index 15 defining the set of a character string and the component identifier of the meta-component in text data as a retrieval key and registering the information of a relation with the document identifier of a document, in which these character string and component identifier appear, a text index reference part 19 retrieves a document corresponding to the Boolean expression, in which the inquiry tree is converted. |
