SOLUTION: The depth information generator that generates depth information at an acquisition position of the reference image from a reference image and at least one peripheral image forming a stereoscopic image pair with this reference image, is provided with a fast stereoscopic processing section 30 that generates the depth information at a high-speed based on the reference image and the peripheral image, a high accuracy stereoscopic processing section 40 that generates the depth information with high accuracy based on the reference image and the peripheral image, and a motion detection section 20 that detects a motion in the image to give an instruction to an image composing section 50 that selects an output of the fast stereoscopic processing section 30 when the motion is high or selects an output of the high accuracy stereoscopic processing section 40 in other cases. The image composing section 50 composes the output of the fast stereoscopic processing section 30 or the output of the high accuracy stereoscopic processing section 40 according to the instruction of the motion detection section 20 to provide an output of a depth image that is the final depth information.
