PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device excellent in display quality and an electronic equipment provided therewith, by preventing display quality from deteriorating, in the peripheral part of the display area of the liquid crystal display device using a chiral nematic liquid crystal having a bi-stable state through Frederick's transition. SOLUTION: Substrates 11, 12 are stuck with a prescribed gap via a sealing material 14, and a chiral nematic liquid crystal layer 13 is enclosed between the substrates. A color filter layer 17 is arranged on the inner surface of the substrate 12; striped transparent electrodes 11a, 12a are formed on the inner surfaces of the substrate 11 and the counter substrate 12 within the range of a display area 18; and dummy electrodes 11A, 12A are formed in the outside of the endmost arts of the transparent electrodes 11a, 12a. The color filter layer 17 is constituted of color pixels 17a and a black matrix 17b, and the black matrix 17b is formed on the color filter layer 17 within the range of dummy electrode areas 19, to form a shading film 17B.
