PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of display defects such as the unevenness of luminance in a display screen by eliminating the variation of a cell gap. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device provided with a first insulating substrate having one electrodes group formed thereon for selecting pixels, a second insulating substrate having at least two kinds of color filters having colors different from one another for color display, black matrices between the color filters and the other electrodes group for selecting pixels, which are formed thereon, a liquid crystal panel having a liquid crystal layer having dielectric anisotropy and sealed between the first and the second substrates opposed to each other and an alignment controlling layer for arranging the molecular arrangement of the liquid crystal layer in a prescribed direction and a driving means for forming an electric field between the one electrodes group and the other electrodes group by applying a driving voltage for selecting pixels onto each electrodes group of the first and the second substrates, is characterized in that one or more cylindrical spacers formed by coating polymer beads with a resin material and having a height nearly equal to the desired height of the liquid crystal layer are fixedly provided in the gap between the first and the second insulating substrates opposed to each other of the liquid crystal panel constituting the liquid crystal display device.
