PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color separation filter device which can avert the color fading and deformation of respective filter parts (a red filter part, green filter part and blue filter part) even if the rotation of the color separation filter is stopped by a fault, etc. SOLUTION: This color separation filter device is provided with a light source 8 and the color separation rotary filter 2 for reading image information or forming images, is provided with a speed detecting sensor 16 for detecting the rotating speed of the color separation rotary filter 2 and is provided with a controller 7 for controlling the lighting of the light source 8 in accordance with the result of detection when the speed detecting sensor 16 detects that the rotating speed of the color separation rotary filter 2 falls to a set value or below.
