PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture generating device capable of shortening the down-load time of a program, and making it unnecessary to retrieve the contents of input data from a host, and down-loading a picture generation program from the host or inputting printer language. SOLUTION: A control part 4 in a picture generating device is provided with a storing means for storing input data inputted from a host computer 1 in a volatile memory 6, judging means 9 and 10 for judging whether or not the data amounts of the input data stored in the volatile memory 6 reach prescribed amounts, and a storing means for storing a program for generating a picture from the input data stored in the volatile memory 6 in a non-volatile memory 7. Then, when it is judged that the input data stored in the volatile memory reach the prescribed amounts by the judging means, the input data stored in the volatile memory are executed as a program for generating a picture. Moreover, the storing means stores the program for generating a picture in the non-volatile memory.
