PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily set the IP address of a portable terminal adapter to be connected to a LAN and also to prevent unauthorized use. SOLUTION: This portable terminal adapter 20 is provided with an IC card reader/writer part 12 for reading information from an IC card 8 by a radio communication means, a portable terminal data converting part 11 for reading information from a portable terminal 7 by an optical communication means, a CPU 3, a flash memory 4, an RS 232C conversion circuit 5 and a LAN control board 6. The IC card 8 is put close to the adapter 20, an access management number and an IP address being the card information are read, they are compared with data stored in the flash memory 4, and then the IP address from the IC card is the IP address of the LAN in the adapter when two groups of data agree.
