PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form magnetic pole parts for regulating the track width of a thin-film magnetic head with good accuracy and to improve the electromagnetic transducing characteristics. SOLUTION: This recording head has a lower magnetic pole layer 10, an upper magnetic pole layer 15, a magnetic gap layer 14 disposed between the respective magnetic pole parts of these magnetic pole layers and thin-film coils 12 disposed between the lower magnetic pole layer 10 and the upper magnetic pole layer 15 in the state of being insulated therefrom. The lower magnetic pole layer 10 has the magnetic pole part 10a which comes into contact with the magnetic gap layer 14, the flat part 10c and a sloping part 10d which connects the magnetic pole part 10a ad the flat part 10c and approaches nearer the recording gap layer 14 the nearer the air bearing surface. The shapes of the magnetic pole part 10a and the sloping part 10d are regulated by a projecting part forming layer 9a formed on the upper shielding layer 8 of a reproducing head. The upper magnetic pole layer 15 is formed atop the recording gap layer 14.
