PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically select one of two modes in which a connection cable is used either as a straight cable or a cascade cable, in accordance with an opposite device when a device is connected to a HUB. SOLUTION: In an automatic connection recognizing part 9, a link establishment recognizing part 11 monitors, whether each ether port connecting part in the HUB is in a link-up state or a link-down state and a cascade change-over part 12 requests change-over to the automatic change-over part of each ether port connecting part concerning the port in the link-down state on the basis of connection state information. According to this request, connection state information changes over the connecting direction of the ether port connecting part into a straight connection part or a cross connection part so that the port in the link-down state changes to the link-up state. Thus, the cable becomes the cascade cable, if the opposite device is the same HUB and becomes the straight cable, if the opposite device is a terminal, a host or a server, etc.
