PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber capable of compensating wavelength dispersion of a 1.38 μm zero dispersion optical fiber at a wavelength band 1.45 to 1.62 μm. SOLUTION: The wavelength dispersion at the wavelength band 1.45 to 1.62 μm of this optical fiber is negative, the wavelength dispersion at a wavelength 1.45 μm is -1 to -7 ps/nm/km, the wavelength dispersion at a wavelength 1.55 μm is -5 to -12 ps/nm/km and the wavelength dispersion at a wavelength 1.62 μm is -6 to -17 ps/nm/km. More preferably, the dispersion slope at the wavelength 1.55 μm is negative, the dispersion slope at the wavelength 1.55 μm is -0.01 to -0.08 ps/nm2/km and the effective sectional area at the wavelength 1.55 μm is >=40 μm2 (more preferably >=45 μm2). |
