PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical signal processing device which modulates the optical subcarrier with a high-speed digital signal, using a semiconductor synchronous mode-locked laser. SOLUTION: A semiconductor mode synchronous laser 10a comprises a gain region 12, an electric-field absorption type modulator region 11, where the absorption factor of light changes according to an applied electric field, a first conductive type clad layer 13, and a second conductive type clad layer 14. An electric- field absorption type modulator drive means is provided, where an inverted reverse with a reference signal being duplicated is applied, between parts of the first and second conductive clad layers of the semiconductor mode synchronous laser which sandwich an electric-field absorption type modulator region, so as to control the electric field applied to it.
