PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new magnetic recording medium having high reliability for a long period of time while restraining the recorded state from being disturbed by heat and capable of coping with high density recording, and to provide a method for manufacturing the new magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: This magnetic recording medium is manufactured, so that antiferromagnetic bodies and ferromagnetic particles are brought into direct contact with one another, by dispersing ferromagnetic particles in an antiferromagnetic matrix, by forming an antiferromagnetic layer and an island- shaped ferromagnetic particle layer in this order on a prescribed substrate, by forming an island-shaped ferromagnetic particle layer and an antiferromagnetic layer in this order on a prescribed substrate or by other methods.
