PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color developing composition for a silver halide color photographic sensitive material which shortens color developing time, gives good color balance and is excellent in color reproducibility and a developing method and to particularly provide a thick liquid processing agent composition which is hardly oxidized by air and does not cause deposition, the climbing of crystals on the wall surface of a developing tank, tar contamination and the coloring of a vessel. SOLUTION: The color developing composition contains a compound of the formula R1-SO3M (where R1 is a 4-10C alkyl; and M is a cation) and at least one compound selected from a polyethylene glycol having a number average molecular weight of <=2,000, ureas and polyvinylpyrrolidones. In the developing method, color development is carried out with a replenisher solution for color development or a developing solution obtained by diluting the developer composition within 2.5 min or at >=40 deg.C processing temperature.
