PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a broadcast receiver provided with a function for appropriately coping with a failure in recording a broadcast. SOLUTION: Auxiliary information with which broadcast contents is identified is received together with the broadcast contents and the auxiliary information is suitably the program array information of digital broadcast. A recorder 9 records the received broadcast contents. When failing in recording the broadcast contents, substituting broadcast contents with which the same broadcast contents is obtained are retrieved based on the auxiliary information and the recording is accelerated by a re-recording acceleration processing part 29. The recording of the substituting broadcast contents is reserved or a user is informed of the presence of the substituting broadcast contents. Also, by effectively utilizing the auxiliary information, recorded contents before and after a recording failure are connected. Further, by effectively utilizing the auxiliary information, the double recording of the broadcast contents already recorded once is avoided and a memory is saved.
