<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect that image data with standards, which is not applicable to a device, is inputted when such input is performed and also prevent the image data from being given to a decoder. SOLUTION: An error checker 322 is placed in a path to which an MPEG ES is directly given. The error checker 322 extracts a header from a supplied stream and checks a coded parameter to detect a syntax violation and a format violation. An error level is set on the basis of contents of the violation. The error level is recorded in a system area of a tape 112 as error information. In the case of reproduction, the error information recovered from the system area is fed to an error processing circuit 323. The error processing circuit 323 applies processing such as output interruption, header correction, replacement with other image data to the outputted MPEG ES so as not to output a stream with violation in response to the error level denoted by the supplied error information. Thus, an external output of illegal MPEG ES is prevented.</p> |
